Dear friends and benefactors, it is our usual time of raising funds for our projects. I am in Santa Fe, New Mexico again to, make presentations and requests for the needed support towards TDIU (St John Paul II schools projects in Uganda).
Last summer visit and fundraisers: Last summer, we had a great task to raise funds for the new project :the dormitories and multipurpose building at St John Paul II VSS. Although we did not reach our goal, a good start amount of $64.500 was collected and later in the fall another 10.000 realized. We are indeed grateful to you all for the efforts made together.
The construction project of the multipurpose project: Last summer we were able to raise 64500 +10000 (74500) which we have used to start the students dormitory and multipurpose building at St John Paul II Vocational secondary school. We are glad to see the construction of the first floor completed and the students are already using it for classrooms and teachers’ office space.
The new school board / We have our new 13 member school board set and they will be helping us a great deal. Our new School Board chairman is Owek. Ggingo K. Mark.
We regret to announce the untimely passing of our pioneer school board chairman Late Aloysious Kitikyamuwogo, who worked tirelessly in the founding and starting of St John Paul II Voc. Sec school. He passed on March 29th 2024. May HSRIP.
Doing Mission in Uganda: Ricardo C. and Camile Quintana: In September we had our first mission trips. Ricardo, a retired Medical doctor and Camile (from Our Lady of Guadalupe parish –Santa Fe), took a mission trip to Uganda.
They helped at a 3 day health camp at Santa Rosa de Lima clinic in Kibuye. They visited and helped at St John Paul II schools, played with kids and installed swings for infant kids too.
They planted corn fields, they participated interacted with village and community offering support at 2 local churches (St. Charles-Nagulu and Kaabayenga in Misigi parish)
They also visited various schools distributing scholastic materials, dolls, toys and rosaries, which they carried with them.
This summer we hosted James and Caleb : James Langenbruner a Church music choir member at St Anne’s Parish, and his son Caleb Langenbruner (a student at St John’s College Santa Fe), made a missionary trip to Uganda.
The two offered to teach children both at primary and secondary school the art of playing trumpets, playing violin, and taught math and physics. They also visited at least 7 other schools in Misigi parish where Fr Denis is in charge of schools.
Works : Attended the celebrations for the Uganda Martyrs June 3rd : trained trumpets, teaching Maths, physics, and literature, participated in dance (Zumba) classroom painting, order and tidiness (had some fun touring places and the safari)
Projects done / ongoing (teachers’ house), we had a donation of 250 mobile plastic chairs for use in the students’ hall at the primary school, we had $2000 donations for students’ food, we also had several scholastic materials donated by parishioners.
School progress: Since January this year, we had tremendous progress at both primary and vocational secondary schools.
Enrollments have gone up more than 50% at the vocational sec school. Last year we started with 76 pioneer students, and this year we have 216. Next year we will have a candidate class Senior.4, and the senior one intake will be more than 100 students and possibly another 60 plus in Senior 2 and 3.
This calls for a speedy preparation in regard to space. At the primary school, the enrollment went up by 30%. By the end of last year we had 218 pupils, and today we have 256 Children.
Infrastructural developments are going on, with some leveling, grass and tree planting. More co-curricular activities are being inculcated in both schools program;
Students played games with other schools up to district level. Music classes and dances are being trained, debates and competition in various areas as well.
We had parents visitation days (VD’s) each term and celebration of St John Paul II feast (school patron’s day next month). Easter was celebrated with high esteem by students where a goat was slaughtered and a good meal of rice, bananas and meat was supplied.
NB This summer fundraising efforts: Completion of the multipurpose building at St John Paul II Voc secondary school in order to provide accommodation and class space to students and a staff room where teachers can organize, rest and prepare before, during and after class schedules.
Our goal :$112, 814.44 for the construction of two floors on the ongoing project at the vocational ,secondary school and $43,577.08 for the unfinished dorms at the primary school.
Projects planned for the near future:
{School chapel; workshop house (brick laying, mechanics and carpentry TOOLS)
NB I know there are some people who would be willing to donate an amount,for a particular project, say construction of a school chapel in honor of family or company ,or in memory of a loved one. This is very much welcome. We can have a special plaque or an inscription laid on to this project and a certificate be issued or invite you to dedicate this particular project.
